Gancia, producer of the first Italian sparkling wine, is launching an innovative low-sugar Prosecco Leggero in the UK. Before releasing it to the wider on-trade, the product will be available exclusively in the Stonegate Pub Company for the initial six months.
Leggero meaning 'light' in Italian, comes with 4.5g/l of residual sugar, which is four times lower than regular Prosecco. Each 100ml serving has 0.6 grams of sugar, and contains 65 calories. The new light prosecco is made with Glera grapes and has an ABV of 11.5%, showcasing pear and apple flavours.
Suzanne Baker, commercial director of the Stonegate Pub Company, said: "This is every female's dream come true. Prosecco is already considered one of the lighter drinks, and now with a skinny version, this is no doubt going to tap into the growing consumer trend for low calorie and low sugar products."
